Summer's Passing

Jessica Ash

To the leaves and riches,
to the branches and helping hands,
to the promise that lies atop the ground whispering
sweet nothings of fall and winter.
Because it, too, will come
as it has always come
in perfect time.
Welcome, thunderous storms
and flashes of sunlight.

Where then will you take me?
Sweet treasures from trees,
full of answers and memories.

I am thirsting for something, anything to bring peace.
I am hungry for knowledge and pathways;
something to light the fire
that has slept inside of me.

Where then will you take me?
Sweet, yellowing leaf.
